Research Collaboration: Discovery of Novel Antifungals

Since 2008, MicroCombiChem and Dr Brian Monk's research group in the Molecular Microbiology Laboratory (University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand) have collaborated on the discovery of novel antifungals, especially inhibitors (chemosensitizers) of the efflux pumps of fungal pathogens. Antifungal drug discovery is being advanced by combining the yeast-based screening capabilities of the Molecular Microbiology Laboratory with the combinatorial chemistry skills of MicroCombiChem. A research project seeking multifunctional azole drugs is currently supported by the Marsden Fund of New Zealand.
